Why do you need SPF record?

In addition to setting up your support email for Ticketing, you are sometimes required to create a Sender Policy Framework (SPF) record with your domain name registrar to ensure that all your emails get delivered properly. An SPF record will ensure that emails sent from the specified domain are not marked as spam by any email clients. It can be done quickly, in a matter of minutes, by modifying your Domain Name System (DNS).

Note:  SPF configuration is not required if you already have DKIM setup. Reach out to support@freshdesk.com if you need any help.

To create an SPF record:

  1. Go to your domain registrar's website.
  2. Login to the domain control panel.
  3. Open your DNS configuration settings.
  4. Edit your ZONE File and look for TXT or SPF records.
  5. Specify the following value: v=spf1 include:email.freshdesk.com ~all.
  6. Save your changes.

What if an SPF record already exists?

You can just include the SPF in the same line as your existing record

v=spf1 include:spf1.domain.com include:spf2.domain2.com include:email.freshdesk.com ~all

You should now be able to send and receive emails from your Freshdesk account without any difficulties. In case you are unable to get the SPF set up, here are more specific instructions with respect to each provider. Make sure you remember to use the right value before saving your changes.

Why does email.freshdesk.com consume too many lookups in DNS?

If the SPF record takes up many DNS lookups, you can include the SPF record only for your specific Data Center, excluding the others.

Here is the list of SPF records for each Data Center. You can also find these details by doing an SPF record Lookup for email.freshdesk.com:
