Age in Days vs. Days in Stage
Freshsales offers two metrics to help sales teams evaluate the lifecycle and progress of deals through the pipeline: “Age in Days” and “Days in Stage”. These metrics provide different perspectives on how long deals have existed and how efficiently they move through each stage.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. What is "Age in Days"?
The Age in Days metric tracks the total duration a deal has existed in the sales pipeline—from its creation to its current position. It includes the cumulative time spent in all stages, including the ongoing time in the current stage.
How It Works:
Age in Days = Time in Previous Stages + Time in Current Stage
To calculate the time spent specifically in the current stage, refer to the “Deal stage updated at” field and compute the difference from the current date.
Example:
Deal Name: Food Frost
Stages Traversed: New → Discovery → Demo (Current Stage)
Age in Days: 578 days
This value reflects the time the deal spent in New, Discovery, and the ongoing time in Demo.
Additionally, the “Age in Days” metric, when used in combination with the “Group By” conditions such as “Deal Name” and “Stage,” provides insights into the current stage of each deal along with the total number of days the deal has been active since its creation.
2. What is "Days in Stage"?
The Days in Stage metric measures the time a deal spent in each completed stage of the sales pipeline. It does not include the time in the current stage, making it useful for post-stage analytics and process evaluation.
How It Works:
Days in Stage tracks only past stages.
The current stage's duration is not included in this metric and only becomes available once the deal moves to the next stage.
Example:
Deal Name: Food Frost
Stages Traversed: New → Discovery → Demo (Current Stage)
Days in Stage will reflect time in New and Discovery. Time spent in Demo will only be tracked once the deal exits this stage.
Why It Matters:
This metric enables sales teams to:
Identify bottlenecks and delays in past stages
Optimize stage-wise performance
Note: Use the “Group by” clause (e.g., by Deal Name or Deal Stage) to make the most of this metric in reports and dashboards.
